High Voltage Electrostatic Separator

High-voltage electrostatic separator is a equipment which uses the difference in material conductivity to achieve separation. It is mainly used for separating metals and non-metals.

1. How it works


1) The electrification process

After the materials enter the sorting area, they are charged by corona electrodes/high voltage electric fields or friction, which causes the surfaces of different materials to be charged with static electricity.

 

The charge of high conductivity materials such as metals is lost quickly, while low conductivity materials such as plastics retain the charge.


2) Electric field sorting

When charged materials pass through the rotating grounded iron drum, negatively charged non-metallic particles, such as plastic, are adsorbed to the drum surface and fall into the collection tank as it rotates.

Due to the loss of charge, metals will not be adsorbed and fall directly to another collection area, achieving material separation.

 

2. Core Structure


Corona electrode: produces a high-voltage electrostatic field to charge the material.

Sorting drum: a grounded metal drum that absorbs charged non-metallic particles.

Bucket conveyor: transports the material evenly to the sorting area.

Collection trough: an independent collection channel for metals and non-metals.

Control system: adjusts parameters such as voltage and drum speed to optimize sorting efficiency.


3. Application Scenario


1)Electronic waste recycling: separation of copper, aluminum and plastic from circuit boards.


2)Plastic recycling: separation of pure plastics such as PET and PVC from mixed waste.


3)Mining sorting: extraction of metal components from ores.


4)Auto dismantling: recovery of metal and non-metal materials from aluminum-plastic composite parts.


4.Advantages of high voltage electrostatic separator

5.Notes


The material needs to be crushed to a uniform particle size, usually 1-5mm.

Avoid high humidity materials to avoid affecting the charging effect.

Clean the electrodes and rollers regularly to prevent dust accumulation and reduce efficiency.
